History:
In 1968 Spencer Silver, who worked with 3M, invented a reusable pressure sensitive adhesive. He promoted his invention but it was not very successful. A colleague of his, Art Fry, w
ould get frustrated because his bookmark would fall out of his hymnal (he was part of a church choir). He started using the adhesive to place his bookmarks in his hymnal. He then
developed the idea and 3M launched the product. By 1980 it was sold nationwide and then spread to Canada and Europe.
Audience:
Our primary target audience is college students. We feel most peo
ple to use them is office staff or students. We want to make the campaign fun and appeal to the students.
Competition:
In general
we think it is index cards or memo pads. Also just the store brand "sticky notes" people can buy at staples or other office supplies stores.
Strategy:
Our strategy is to use post it notes in exaggerated ways. We will be showing situations in which a post-it would be needed but not show the actual post-it and the tagline will be something like "Need a Post-it"
Our ads will be bright and cheery.
